Heggen Wave

katja.jpg Norway, Møre og Romsdal, Valldøla - Lower section, River wave, Heggen wave

What's it like

The Heggen wave is a breaking wave which offers excellent surf for those over beginner level and with a sweet shoulder to pop tricks off. The wave has eddy service on both sides, but the better is on river right.

The water temperature is normally cold.

The wave normally works between mid-may to late june. It becomes stickier at higher waterlevels, and then flushes out at around 2.30 metres (check further down).

How to get there

From Valldal, follow the Rv 63 towards Trollstigen and Åndalsnes for about 10 km. Here you drive over a bridge. This is the put-in for the lower section of the Valldøla. This is also the put-in for the wave. Paddle down the river about 800 metres and take the big eddy on the right. You will clearly see the wave.

The take-out is 200 metres downstream, and you can see the road from the eddy next to the wave. Hike back up to your car or leave a shuttle veichle here.

Locals

You can meet happy campers, cows, some fishermen or local rafters/kayakers. Everyone is normally nice.

Events

There are no known competitions here, so make your own. But they would be here on a warm day in June.
