May 9 Social NZSUP FB Some fantastic pix from New Zealand's first ever inter-school regional SUP championships, held alongside the NZ SUP National Distance race event at Waitangi on Saturday 13 April. Nearly 70 youngsters from 7 Northland schools took part, each racing against their own age groups (U12, U14, U16, U19) on fleets of identical boards provided by the organisers. This format meant that any school could take part and the playing field was level for everyone, removing the big obstacles to inter-school SUP competition. The kids had an awesome time, and the event finished with an inter-school team relay race which was possibly the noisiest point of the entire weekend. The youngsters took a break from their racing to watch the national championship races start and finish, which was extremely inspiring for them all, as was having multiple National title holder Ollie Houghton on hand to present the prizes. Kerikeri High School won the overall schools trophy, while Kaitaia College took the team relay ...
