What a comfortable, predictable creeker!
About myself First off, I am tall and skinny, so it is difficult for me to find boats that fit both my hight and weight requirements. I am a green, but solid, class IV boater. I have been boating for about 4 months and this was the bargain that got me into the sport. About the test environment I have paddled the Y on a variety of class (III)-(IV+) creeks in the Adirondack Mts.: AuSable R. (class III wavetrains and holes. A few technical rapids requiring eddy hopping to boat scout), Otter Cr. (pool-drop class IV), Independence R. (Long! class IV+ slide with multiple doors yealding varying features from undercut sidewalls to munchy hole boofs), Saranac R. (class III slalom at the level I saw it at), Grass R. (class IV pool drop with some really fun features but too much flat water in between). Review With my height and weight in mind, this was an extremely comfortable boat. This is the first boat I have been in that I did not need to slide the seat back in. It...
I LOVE this river-runner!
About myself First off, I am tall and skinny, so it is difficult for me to find boats that fit both my hight and weight requirements. I am a green, but solid, class IV boater. I have been boating for about 4 months and this was the bargain that got me into the sport. About the test environment I have run this boat down the Black Rive in New York, and the Ottawa River in Canada. They are both class III, IV. The Black is pretty tame with a few sticky holes to avoid and one 15' drop. The Ottawa is really, really, really big water with lots of play-waves, but often has minimal consiquences. It does have a number of munchy holes, but they are pretty easy to avoid...though, I often didn't. But I had only been boating for three weeks when I was there. I have also surfed at the Rt. 3 wave on the Black River. Review First off, I fit in it. At 6'3" and 155 lbs., that...
Solid Boat
About Myself First off, I am tall and skinny, so it is difficult for me to find boats that fit both my hight and weight requirements. I am a green, but solid, class IV boater. About the test environment I borrowed this boat from a friend to run the Bottom Moose River (IV+, V, V+) at low and medium levels. The river has a wide variety of features from a 45' 60 degree slide to narrow, technical, hole-ridden rapids. Reviews Over all, I think this boat handles very well. I learned to paddle in a Necky Jive, which is a very fast flat bottomed river runner, and I found that the Salto was very similar, but with more volume. It is very fast and rather edgy, which was comfortable for me. What was not comfortable for me was the outfitting. Again I am tall and skinny, so take that into consideration. I did not quite max out the seat or foot strechers, but was close. To get it to fit properly, I...
