Not a bad boat

About the reviewer I am an advanced freestyle paddler. During the period in which I was using this boat (the entire summer) I was alternative sessions in my Allstar throwing FAR bigger moves. And will be using that as my reference boat. Test environment All ranges of surf, from tiny to massive, saw it all. Please note I never bought or used fins, but installed the boxes to increase hull-speed. If you are looking for a full-on surf boat this really isn't the boat for you anyway. Review The first thing I have to say about this boat is that it is a specialty item. Treat it as such and don't bother buying it unless you will really use it. Second, it is not a normal playboat, you have a higher center of balance and zero primary stability. The best advice I ever got about this boat was that the first 3 sessions I was going to have my ass kicked but I would love it after that. Goods: The hull design of this boat is quite interesting, insanely fast and loose. I wish all playboats were as...

Venture Flex 11-A great little kayak

About the reviewer Construction worker, green recreational kayaker Test environment Susquehanna River, windy, and 1 foot waves Review I was a little concerned with the water conditions. The wind made the boat turn to the right, but floated great, stayed up in cross waves. Rolled with the swells, but wasn't pushed. Put the skeg down, and the wind problem was solved, tracked straight as an arrow. The boat seemed to have good speed for it's 11 foot length. I really enjoyed this kayak. Conclusion As a beginner, I had a great time on the water with this kayak, although more time would have been better. Liked it so much, I am purchasing one.

the bomb

About the reviewer good fella Test environment north queensland Review good boat for my size, the minni is narrow and i think this is good for must make ferries. its short and moves well in the tight area's u dont want to breach or pin in. it resurfaces so well....when u go that way you didnt want to go and it keeps u on top. ive dragged it through the bush and up the ocasional road . our local river is basalt so the plastic cops a flogging. its holding up well for almost 2 year old. the cockpit is narrow which took some getting used to. it carves so well....i love it...the kiwi's made a winner. Conclusion its good for me....

super-fast! super stable

About the reviewer I'm an intermediate / amateur racer Test environment new to racing / paddling Review I've been paddling the Riot Liberty for about 2 years now and couldn't be happier. It's stiffness is awesome - no flex whatsoever, so my paddle strokes go where they're supposed to - into my speed. It's low chines and sleek design make it a fast choice even in windy conditions. I've always paddled boats with rudders before and can't believe how much I LOVE a skeg. It's simpler, maintenance free, doesn't catch wind, faster, and lets me leverage my feet for stronger paddling. At just under 16 feet, it isn't as long as I'd like, but it becomes the fastest boat in class at most races - where it keeps me out of the pro class. Also, this makes it a little more maneuverable for river racing and fun in the surf. Conclusion Fastest (under 17 ft touring boat) I know of. Comfortable, stable enough for a novice, and very stiff. Wishes: wish Riot made a Kevlar version of this boat...

Airis Play 8 rocks as an inflatable play boat

About the reviewer Avid inflatable kayak paddler looking for something more fun than what has been available for the past decade. Test environment Various rivers up to class 3-4. Review The high pressure hull, flat bottom, short waterline and full bow make this boat perform like nothing else out there! It planes and spins like a hardshell, but rolls up and stows in your trunk (along with all the rest of your gear). At only 15 pounds it's super easy to right if you capsize and the low sides make re-entry a cinch. To trick it out for whitewater use I cut off the skeg, and added an NRS backband and thigh straps. Depending on leg length you may want to add additional D-rings to get the best thigh strap fit. Conclusion Awesome boat, and there are some killer deals to be found on the web - well worth the price!! Wet ride with scupper plugs

About the reviewer fisherman, recreational paddler Test environment freshwater lakes & ponds and the Long Island Sound Review My only complaint is that when I test paddled a 12' version of this kayak, I was told the 14' version would be much drier. (I'm 225lbs, 6'3") So I purchased the 14' version. The footwell fills all the way up with water and spills over into my seat making for a very wet ride. I purchased scupper plugs and this took care of the problem. Otherwise an excellent kayak with plenty of legroom, and with a good seat, fairly comfortable for 4 hours. Any longer and need to get out and stretch. (BTW, the only additional weight I carry is 2 poles and 1 small tackle box

River Runner / Playboat

About the reviewer I'm a relatively new paddler, yet aggressive. My interest has been river/play boats. I have paddled a few and can compare them Test environment Class III New Boston Section and Flat Water Review I just blindly purchased the WaveSport Fuse 48 after owning a Dagger RX 6.7. A deal came thru and I was able to get the Fuse for at a steal. I never demo'd the boat, just bought it based on WaveSport's reputation and some research. The Fuse 48 is an awesome boat. From the first peel out to my last eddy out, I was amazed at the difference when compared to the Dagger RX and the Jackson Fun. The Fuse is by far a better boat (for me) then either of the other two.. or the CR for that matter. The Fuse is the most "playful" off all these boats. Besides that, downriver this thing is super stable and way forgiving. The Fuse is super easy to roll and it's stability when put on edges is truly amazing. Put it this way... on flat water you have to try to flip...

Fast and agile

About the reviewer I'm between beginner and intermediate levels, closer to beginner. Started kayaking in the '90-s, it became more regular about five years ago and paddled more or less weekly in the last two years. I have experiences mainly on inland waters. I paddled once the Mediterranean sea and once the Aegean. That was fun. O:-) Test environment Several times on rivers in Hungary. Review Storage room is not as big as for bigger kayaks (like for Kodiak), but plenty enough for my old tent and all stuffs for a week or two. Hatches are closing correctly. The back rest is a belt, what is best for me. For others it might be a weak point. Primary stability is a bit low, but I think it's pro, not contra. Fast, well edging capability, easy to roll. On calm water the rudder is not necessary but very usefull in tough conditions. Conclusion Nice and fast kayak for smaller or medium sized paddlers.

Shaggy Sith

About the reviewer Intermeadiate / Advanced paddler with time in OC, C and K boats Test environment Mostly class III but II and IV as well. Each boat tested was configured defferently with outfitting and had different cuts (Volume). Review Was pretty happy in every verision I paddled! Very slicey and loose, quick on a wave and can plain or cut across current with ease. Due to size and material (Composite) its not a hard core creeker but I can easily see running the UY and BS in this boat. As a play boat & river runner it has some serious factor for you! Light to carry and construction is top notch. Cons - not many other than having to paddle it as glass boat on rock runs. Oh and Shaggy only does limited metal flake - I like my glass glittery! Conclusion If there is only on C1 to have this is pretty much it.

Taking the gamble.

About the reviewer Married with 2 kids, so trying to make flat water paddling a little more interesting. Test environment Flat water - canals mainly Review Having been out of the paddling world for a few years (the joys of having kids), we were eager to get back to it. Having enjoyed a lot of white water playing years back, I wanted something that would still make a trip down the local canal with the younguns' a little bit more interesting. Having not been around any of the newer boats, or even some of the older ones, I was at a complete blank when it came to buying a new toy. Virtually the 1st boat I sat in (in a shop) was the big dog Kaos L. I went out to Holme Pierre Pont to have a look around - every where you look people are paddling Jacksons! I hadn't got any gear anymore so I couldn't even get out and demo. So I took a gamble. A complete unknown company to me. It looked good but I still hadn't tried one. Well I wasn't disappointed. Played all the way...

Bad news. Try before you buy.

About the reviewer Owned 4 kayaks. Experienced. Test environment Lake and river. Review I bought the Dagger Blackwater 12. I found it slow, won’t glide at all. Like paddling a heavy log! Plows through the water with the greatest of disease. Doesn’t track well unless you have the skeg down and then the drag is even worse than with it up. Way too much work for a sport that’s supposed to be fun. Cockpit is too short and I think could be dangerous if you rolled the boat and had to get out in a hurry. Very tippy. You have to constantly keep the boat balanced by shifting your weight. I couldn’t keep up with a group of kids in canoe that were clunking around and banging the sides of their boat. This would have been my fourth kayak but I bought with a money back guarantee and RAN back to the dealer. Compare to ANYTHING else and buy ANYTHING else. Summary: Slow, no glide, plows, possibly dangerous due to lack of stability. I can’t believe all the reviews where the reviewer precisely identifies the problems with the boat and still gives it a good rating. ...

pungo 100 on the nantahala

About the reviewer 52 yr old father of a kayak freak Test environment class ii, class iii Review Nestled in a steep gorge, the Nantahala shimmers through its mild but exciting rapids. Kayaking on the Nantahala River offers eight miles of practice on easy Class II rapids before splashing through the exciting Class III whitewater of Nantahala Falls. This is one of America’s most popular whitewater runs, so expect to see other paddlers playing in the waves. After making this run on two different days, this rec boat deserves a little more than just a passing glance. I'm not a novice but not a true enthusiast but, I found the pungo 100 easy to paddle thru all parts of the river and even caught more surf time than some of the play boats in my group. Conclusion love this easy to paddle stable and versitle boat
