Bavaria, Munich, River Isar,Wittelsbacher
Playspot: Germany, Bavaria, Munich, River Isar, Wittelsbacher.
What's it like
There are two playspots here. The first one is about 500 meters above the Wittelsbacher bridge (at the railway bridge). It is a river-wide hole with an eddy on the right side. If you have a short playboat it will be perfect for cartwheeling and 360's.
The best gauge levels are between 1.20 and 1.80 m.
The Wittelsbacher itself is a big hole with green waves on both sides. All moves are possiblehere. Right after the spot there are big eddies. Don't go any further: after one more kilometer there is a dangerous weir.
The best gauge levels here are between 1.80 and 3 m but it is also possible to surf and spin at levels as low as 1.20 m.
It is officially not allowed to paddle here but normally you won't have any problems.
How to get there
The Wittelsbacher Brücke is in the south part of Munich city between Kapuzinerstraße and Humboldtstraße. From the center of Munich (e.g. Sendlinger Tor) you have to drive the Lindwurmstraße southwards and after 500 m left in the Kapuzinerstraße, after 1 km you reach the Wittelsbacher Brücke. There is parking place on the right side after the bridge.
More info
The gauge s directly at the bridge on the left side upstream.
Online water level info is available here (in German).
