About
A kayaking trip into Africa with the dual aim of educating rural people about the potential of solar power.
Content
Rush Sturges and Tyler Bradt have managed to successfully document another one of their wild adventures, this time across Africa. The action starts with a drive down from Uganda down to the Zambezi, where a few clips are shown. Next up is South Africa which I found to be quite a short section, but very enjoyable none the less, as this is my home country.
After this they hit Madagascar, which is possibly the highlight of the movie. Some of the craziest looking rapids I’ve ever seen are run and I found myself watching this section again and again. Where local areas are paddled, local music is experienced, great stuff! You may find yourself wanting to book a flight to this island of kayaking heaven right away.
Once the wild, brown waters of Madagascar are over, they fly back to the mother continent and back to the Zambezi, where it is tackled at very high water. It is run at probably the highest level ever recorded. The Murchison Falls section of the Nile is next and without going it, this section of the Nile is sick, although, as is said in the movie, the purpose was not to document this section, the purpose was to live. And then all of a sudden, it’s over. Only 33 minutes long and this is my only gripe. I just wished they had shown more, and I’m sure a lot of viewers will feel the same. But overall, excellent stuff and well worth it to add to any kayakers collection.
There is also a section on the Sun Catchers Project, which is part of the aim of the trip. The expedition provided opportunities to educate the rural people about the potential of solar power. Profits from this movie will generously be donated to this project. A very noble cause indeed.
Music
The music is great. I can complain easily, and I have zero complaints here - very cool. It is quite different to other DVD’s and you won’t find the usual hard metal of the usual stuff out there.
Conclusion
A fantastic, action packed DVD that shows some awesome footage of the Dark Continent, hard to fault.
Extras
There are 4 extras on this DVD: The Sun Catchers Project, Dream Result, Last Descent and Stakeout teasers.
