Developed & designed by Jude Turczynski and Wayne Kocher in the Spring of 2009, V2-X is a high volume all conditions two person canoe that out runs the V2-Z on the flats and has enough volume for a variety of paddlers and conditions. Wayne Kocher shaped her from a V2-Z, moderating the rocker and boosting volume at all critical points by increasing the beam (width) by one inch and raising the gunwales along the cockpits and aft deck. Wayne placed a pair of low set cockpits with high supportive side walls like those found in the newly redesigned 2009 V1-X that he shaped earlier this year. The lower rear cockpit allows a lot more clearance for the rear paddler to reach under the front iako. Wayne placed a water parting ridge along the entire fordeck so pearling is limited to short events.

The V1-Z is one of our latest OC-1 designs introduced in July of 2004. The "Z" is our first OC-1 to be conceived with the aid of a computer. Designed and developed by Jerry Montgomery, with input from myself as director, we developed her from Jerry's CAD drawing and calculations. Jerry shaped the first plug and built various prototypes until we came up with the production "Z". We wanted a canoe that was much more versatile than our previous V1-A and STEALTH, for a wider range of water conditions and paddler heights & weights. We wanted her to be our fastest canoe on flat water without sacrificing the big water abilities. She's shorter than our V1-B and less bulky than our V1-A. She's super stable to keep up with current surfing and racing techniques used by the talented crowd in outrigger sport. We applied everything we've learned through all of our design and development years together. The result is a TOTALLY new and dynamic hull design with a fantastically awesome cockpit fit and feel.

The new V1-X was totally gone through with modifications to the cockpit, ama and Hull. We took some of the rocker out of the center of the hull (under the cockpit) to reduce drag and keep more of the tail volume close to the water where it can be used. Small paddlers will like this because it increases their waterline for more glide between strokes. Large people will like this because they can make use of more volume in rough water, with a similar glide between strokes. The main canoe is wider by half an inch at most locations and by an inch at the cockpit, which is another fine source of volume. We redesigned the footwells to have a more relaxed angle to the ankle and to allow more drive off the leg during the pull. The seat platform has been lowered by half an inch (25mm) to provide more stability and the gunwales raised to above the seat top to provide more control and support through the foam seat. The newly redesigned ama has a great deal more volume and we reduced the rocker to improve glide (reduce drag).

Totally redesigned in January of 2010, the new HUKI V1-R is our Big Water canoe that is capable of handling the full range of paddlers from small people to paddlers over 250 pounds, in the largest seas down to flat water. The V1-R is aimed at racing in big water where the canoe must fit into steep wind chop and waves and have enough volume to keep the big water enthusiast happy and dry.

First introduced in September of 1998, the V1-A was the first OC-1 design collaboration between Jerry Montgomery and myself Jude Turczynski. Probably the winningest OC-1 design in Northern California and the Northwest U.S, the HUKI V1-A has taken nearly 2/3 of all placings in these areas since her introduction, and has taken an excellent portion of placings in Southern Cal and the Eastern U.S as well. She's a long proven flat to moderate conditions performer for people who seldom venture into stormy, steep chop & tall white caps. She tracks very well and is easy to keep on course when racing without a rudder. With her rudder in place, she handles quite well in small waves & light weather.
