I don't get the "door" boards....

I did a finless board last year that had a squared off nose... fun to surf but the whole time I was thinking, but a regular nose on this and it'd be better....

I tried one at BOP - surfed like a door...

I don't get it

Classic example of "Change to Sell" syndrome! I get a kick out of all this stuff. Went through this (and also all the multi-concave bottom-hull trends) back in the 80's. Always come back to what REALLY works... Paddle on, JD

I like the idea of playing around with different shapes. When I first saw those door shapes, it reminded me of wake boards, so I was wondering what would happen if you would put small fins on both ends. I assume it allows for different tricks in the surf. Not sure how long lived the trend will be, but at least they are trying new things, which is always good imho.
