This was my First New from the store kayak. I loved it for what it was. I was a river runner and this was a cool tool. Fast, Nimble, stable, and a confidants builder of a kayak. Looking back I traded it in for something new and blue and regretted it. It was a outstanding kayak and out lived all of the hype. It is and should be a cult classic in some circles.
The Perception Ultraclean was my first kayak. I got it 2nd hand I did not know anything about kayaking at the time. My boat was oilcanned so bad I thought it was the boats design. This is not a user friendly kayak...any movement from center will the initiate slicy stern or bow and flip the novice kayak upside-down. I spent my first season swimming more than boating. If I was a seasoned kayaker my experience may have been different. Some of the more seasoned kayakers in my group at the time said the Mr.Clean was a better boat if you fit the specs. (Mr.Cleans don't oilcan as much or so I'm told).
I liked the Gradient but it was a Meh kayak to me. I would be excited to be in the water but not excited about the Gradient as my chosen craft. I spent a winter in the Gradient but let it go when spring came. Don't get me wrong it preformed great for what I needed at the time but in the end it just did't tickle my fancy.
It was a fun kayak for river running and eddy hopping.
The Bliss-stick Huka was one of my favorite kayaks and I loved the stern design.
