River: Vaal Location: Gatsien’s shoot Water level: 15 cumecs The previous two days I had been paddling my large Flirt, which has been my playboat since on the market. In comparison; getting into the boat, it looks slightly smaller inside, yet as comfortable as you can be in a playboat. The widest part of my feet was as comfortable compared to the Flirt, however this was a prototype boat and the production boat has been made bigger. The nose is boxed shape and doesn’t taper. As I started paddling, it felt alive, leaving the Flirt feeling sluggish. It’s quick on flat and moving water. In the hole it’s loose and quick. On my second time the quarter edge and window shaded, which I haven’t done in the past two days. It’s easier to control and position on the foam pile for setting up moves. With cartwheels the boat is easy to initiate and stable on end and a lot easier to put on edge than the Flirt. The...
