Newly developed during the summer of 2003 and introduced in October of the same year, the HUKI S1-X is the first surfski hull design by Jerry Montgomery, with some input from myself, Jude Turczynski. I wish I could take more credit for her than just being concept and detail director. She is brilliant. This surfski hull is our second commercial production shape to be designed with a computer.

Designed and shaped in early 2005 by Jerry Montgomery with computer aided techniques developed here at HUKI, the HUKI S1-R went into production in April of the same year. I wanted to develop a ski with a great deal more stability than our other two surf skis. I wanted a big bump boat that wouldn't toss me off in a messy sea. Something that would surf and maneuver well. Jerry and I went back to our S1-X for the successful shapes that produced the best performing surf ski in the world. We made her a little beamier and a foot shorter and we gave her a little more volume. The result is the new HUKI S1-R that has been tested in some BIG 4-6 foot windchop, mixed slop and current, by very experienced paddlers and novices alike.

The latest in the evolution of 12-6 racing stand up paddleboards “The 12-6 Hobie Elite”. The Hobie Elite design was a direct result from the Battle of the Paddle 2009. Feedback from all of our elite racers from the event helped us in developing a board that paddles fast is extremely stable in the chop, turns easy and that surfs really well for a 12-6 race board. Utilizing the latest in high tech materials the Poly Carbon Epoxy construction “PCX” creates a board that is light weight, extremely durable and stiff for speed.
