May 20	Social	Instagram	So today has just been great so far. I have to tell you! Ok, after I saw the big heart rock in the water, I stepped off my board to try for a better pic. Then I got back on my board and continued my slow paddle around the lake, looking for those big 30 kilo fish that are legend in this lake. This young girl who was obviously practicing sprints on her SUP - I see her on the lake all the time and remember her from last year - I have never seen anyone paddle so fast - she rides over toward me and tells me that my leash is caught under my board. I look, and sure enough it is! It must have gotten caught under the fin when I stepped off for the pic and hopped back on. So I paddle over to the dock to fix it. The girl paddles off. A beautiful chow-mix pup that reminded me SO MUCH of Gamma Ray comes running over to greet me and licks my sunglasses and all over my face. The dog owners are telling me about their sweet dog and how she likes to SUP, too - her name is Maliko, which means something in Hawaiian, but I couldn’t quite catch what they said bc of my hearing- and then I come to find out that the girl on the SUP is their daughter. So we are talking for a while about dogs and whales and Alaska and Slovenia and paddling. Very friendly people. They live in a small town next to Bled and this is a great training spot for their kid, who is 20, older than I originally thought. After a while he tells me that his daughter placed 3rd in last year’s SUP World Cup in Fiji. She’s a paddle board rockstar. Also a kite surfing rockstar, too. I think the dad might be her coach as he was talking to her on a walkie talkie and giving instructions, and he also had a drone he uses for filming. It was pretty cool. This is a video I finally thought to take after watching her practice sprints for about 15 minutes. You can hear her dad in the background talking to her in Slovenian on the radio. How often does this happen? Thank goodness I’m a huge dork and my leash was caught. Thank goodness I’m hearing impaired and have to get so close to lipread in order to figure out what people are saying. I never would have had this interaction otherwise! Her name is Manca Notar.
