I would so much rather 'exercise' outside in nature than in a studio or gym any day. What is so awesome about stand up paddling is how easy it is to learn. Most people can hop on a board and be up and standing in their very first lesson (if this was not the case for you, keep in mind that the conditions as well as the board do make a BIG difference, so make sure you go out in flat glassy water and are on a nice wide stable board if you were not able to stand up so easily!). With that being said, the stroke is actually very technical and proper technique can make all the difference in the world in terms of one's enjoyment and appreciation of this sport as well as actually being able to go far, fast! So, make sure your blade is facing the right direction (the angle of the blade should face forward), keep your arms relatively straight, and paddle with your core, not with your arms. Maintain a short quick stroke and take the blade out of the water at your feet, not behind you. Nov 4 Social Instagram When in doubt, turn upside down. Inversions are an amazing way to literally shift one's perspective, which is exactly what I needed today. I have been challenged at home and at work these past couple of weeks with limited (read, NO) childcare and a lot going on. Yoga always sets me straight, especially when I include inversions into my practice. And a rare opportunity today for an ocean paddle with a friend on this gorgeous balmy day didn't hurt either :). #yoga #sup #supyoga #theomcollection @theomcollection
