Oct 13 Social Instagram Some atheletes deal with more than self doubt and personal demons. Sometimes they deal with obstacles that would stop most people dead in their tracks. Many would see what she deals with and what she has to do to overcome it as an insurmountable obstacle. Yet Fiona sees it as something that is to be overcome in order to achieve her goals, dertermined and unstoppable she pushes forward not letting her condition define her. Fiona deals with type 1 diabetes, while you may not see it as something serious make no mistake that the cost of not managing her condition well would be costly as in she could lose her life. Management of diabetes requires an incredible amount of discipline and fortitude, she has dedicated herself to an amazing regimen of diet and exercise to help manage her condition along with daily insulin. To me it is amazing that for someone this young she has taken what would stop most and owned it and used it to fuel her determination. I love stories like this because seldom to we see beyond what an athelete does on the field, we see the amazing things they do and the life they lead and think they have it easy. Yet here we have someone who has to deal with daily hardship and fight uphill battles to get what she dreams about. Heroes are made of such qualities, we often imagine them in capes and colorful costumes beating up criminals. But perhaps a hero can be a young girl from Oregon with a board in one had and a paddle in the other fighting her daily battles and working hard to achieve her goals. Just doing what she does inspires others and shows us the indomitable quality of the human spirit. The power is within us to be more than what we are, choose to be greater, choose to be unstoppable. Thank you @fiona_wylde for your courage and inspiration. #california #ppg2016 #supthemag #sup #type1diabetes #athelete #unstopabble #fluxphotosup #courage #heroes #standuppaddle #ppgportraits #blackandwhite #starboardsup #wernerpaddles #oneillwomens #supconnect #danapoint #dohenystatebeachcampground

Oct 6 Social Instagram The calm before the storm. The last 2 days of PPG we didn't have that glorious morning light like we did the 1st day. In fact the skies looked downright menacing, yet even in such conditions there was a peaceful beauty to it. People from far and wide come to watch the absolute best in the world compete in this event and while many look forward to the chaos and the wipeouts that come throughout the day it is the peaceful moments that I love. The rituals and routines that remind us that these people who do seemingly superhuman things with little fear and go where angels fear to tread really are just normal people after all. Like the rest of us they too must find a way to find peace before the chaos, to rally that strength and to keep fear and doubt at the fringes of the mind and spirit. On a grey and stormy morning with menacing skies, a break in the clouds a shaft of light and a solitary paddler @fiona_wylde enters the waters to find that moment of peace.....so began day 2. #california #danapoint #dohenystatebeach #paddleboarding #standuppaddle #sup #supthemag #supjournal #standupjournal #stormy #ppg2016 #pacificpaddlegames #starboard #starboardsup #wernerpaddles #peace #athelete #competition #nikonusa #d5 #fluxphotosup
