A history of 30 years of paddling creates a solid understanding of reliable and sturdy gear: Bernd Sommer started paddling as soon as he could walk. From slalom, to freestyle, from class V river running to outrigging Bernd has experienced almost every discipline of this sport to the extreme. As a German champion in rodeo and New Zealand champion in outrigging he has travelled the world with his kayak. Now settled in Okere Falls, New Zealand, Bernd is by trade a qualified carpenter, manufacturer and designer of boats and paddles. A solid German education in carpentry and a long experience with wood and paddles have given him both an eye and feel for sculpting and shaping the perfect wooden paddle.
