About the reviewer

I just got into kayaking July '06 with my purchase of the Loon 100

Test environment

I bought the Loon 100 a few years ago and have gotten lots varied use out of it. First its supposed to be used as a lake/ lazy river boat. At least thats what the description of the boat is. Being my first kayak - i thought it was great in that respect. It tracks well, has a rear hatch and lots of room inside.
About two weeks after i bought the kayak i started running down some whitewater. Obviously not endorsed by Old Town. I bought flotation bags one for the hatch, which has a tendency to fill with water through lots of rapids and one for the front of the kayak. It was tough finding a sprayskirt for such a large opening for a kayak (42" range roughly).

Review

My review of the kayak is it feels like a hybrid between canoe and kayak, even though it is obviously a kayak. Its great for on the lake and is able to handle tough Class II rapids, but gets a pretty tipsy.

Conclusion

The thing i like the most about the kayak is that its able to be used on the lake and some whitewater, its versatile. If your looking for primarily a whitewater boat - you don't want this boat.

I would really like to hear from anyone that has tried to use this kayak for whitewater and what their thoughts are.
