For years, creek-running enthusiasts havestruggled with kayaks that failed to resurface quickly after big drops, provided precious little shock absorption and weren't quite agile enough to perform the increasingly technical maneuversexpected of them.

That struggle ends today with the introduction of the new Crux from Necky Kayaks, a shorter whitewater kayak designed specifically for the extreme demands of creek running.

At seven feet, seven inches, the Crux is seven inches shorter than Necky's existing creekboat, the Blunt, but retains the same stable 25-inch width. Built for use on highly technical creek runs, the Crux' shorter, soft-chined hull is more responsive and sharper turning, handling grabbyhydraulics with ease and providing surprising speed for its length. It also handles big drops better than any previous model, thanks to a new peaked v-deck for better resurfacing and a new energyabsorbing outfitting system which minimizes the impact felt by paddlers plunging over rocks, falls or rapids. This system also protects the paddler's ankles when the boat slams into rocks or otherobjects. In addition, the Crux also offers creek enthusiasts new seat design, with hip pads for abetter fit and improved ergonomics. "This boat can run the hairiest of rivers, from rocky creeks to fast-flowing flood runs,"said Billy Harris, one of the world's top competitive freestylers and whitewater paddlers. "Itturns on a dime, has great speed, resurfaces quickly, and the new outfitting system is unbelievably effective at absorbing impact shock."

A relatively high volume kayak (72 gallons) for its length, the Crux will appeal to larger paddlers looking for an aggressive, all-purpose whitewater boat, as well as intermediate to advanced creek-running enthusiasts. It is made of durable polyethylene, weighing in at 37 pounds, and features adjustable hip pads, adjustable thigh bracing and an adjustable seat with backband and ratcheted forward seat adjustment. Security bars and a rescue loop are also built in.
