Atlantis14 is a transitional touring kayak, it bridges the gap between recreational and touring kayaking.
With plenty of stability, excellent tracking, speed and controlled turning, it will stay with you as your skills grow. The Atlantis14 comes outfitted with a rudder, mid-sized cockpit and tons of storage for day touring or overnights. Outfitting includes fore and aft sealed bulkheads with hatches, plus a day hatch for those smaller on hand items. You also get deck rigging, perimeter lines, and a comfortable high-back seat and retractable grab handles. Rounding out the Atlantis is her rudder, allowing extended tracking in wind or cross currents, and easer control for the less experienced.
Further Specs:
Capacity: 308lbs / 140 kg
Features:
• Two Bulkheads; Two Primary Hatches; Day Hatch
• Comfortable High-Back Thermofoam Seat
• Rudder with Proprietary Foot Pedal Steerage System

• Stable, Maneuverable Hull with Ease of Entry/Exit Cockpit

About the test environment
Flaming Gorge is a huge (90 miles long) reservoir in NE Utah/SE Wyoming (and quite stunning scenery) formed by damming the Green River. Very popular rec area can be quite choppy with many boats, but the coves are calm and numerous.
Review
I paddled the Atlantis for a few days in and around the coves in Flaming Gorge. Used it with and without the rudder. I would say the rudder is only needed when there is a crosswind or current to deal with...then it is very useful. Otherwise, the Atlantis tracks well, moves smoothly thru chop, and is quite stable without the rudder down. The light weight is nice as it allows cartopping and carrying without hurting yourself.
Conclusion
All in all, I give this 4 stars as an intermediate level, reasonably priced kayak and am looking forward to throwing it on the car many times in the future.
