The Reaction is not a new design. It is an “old mold” that Dragorossi has brought back to life. The Reaction was designed right as the short boat revolution was starting, and so while it is an “old school” design, many of its features and lines strongly resemble those of modern boats, from the rocker shape, to knee position and the general way it paddles.
We brought this mold back to life when we saw some of the “prototype” designs that the various companies were working on (boats for “extreme racing”) and realized that the Reaction was in fact just like them. In fact, we put the Reaction up against several of the “new designs” and... hello hello - the difference was so small it was striking.
Lets face it though. Very few people are actually buying these “extreme racers” for racing. Most of us don’t race, but we can sure have a lot of fun going fast down rivers. It’s a rush to get into a boat that has a lot of forward speed and zoom down class 4+ and 5 rivers, making hard moves super fast.
But we’ve also found another group who was exceoted to see us bring this boat to life. Paddlers who run class 2+3 rivers, who don;t need an “ultra turny” boat, and have more fun eddy hopping, and zipping about the river with their friends. So if you’re in the mood for a change from the short boats... here it is.
