Sorry if you have covered this before, but can you give a run down of your production process?

I design on Shape3D.

I get my CNC'd blanks from Marko Foam with Hi-Res cut.  Cost on this one is $125.  My usual boards run about $180.

I use Pure Glass in Costa Mesa for glassing.  Base EPS glass job (6+6/6) with 4+1 Futures fins on this board will be $325.  I may add some extras like a Volan deck patch and/or tail patch.  My usual boards run about $450 for a base glassing job.

Nice, so both those places are local to you then? That must help with the shipping costs.

Looking like fun!
I’ll be back out in Dec. let’s do a meet up for some surf!
Maybe we can do a board swap too. I don’t know if I’ll be able to ride your tiny boards, but with a try.

Finished sanding the blank today.  Holy cow, if I can paddle this thing I think it is going to be a pretty fun SUP to surf.    A couple shots of the sanded blank next to an 8' Wavestorm Surfboard and my 6'1" Bean Bag for reference...

I'm still reeling over what it costs you to build a board, anon. The beauty of living in a true surf area. A CNC'd blank for $125-180. Wow! There's a minimum $150 order for a block of foam where I get it. Sure if you buy bigger the cost goes down somewhat, but a blank is still basically starting at $150, and that's in block form and I still have to drive 3 hours round trip to get it. Then resin, and the shipping costs it takes to get it to me. Then glass.....I'm not whining, just marveling. One of the reasons I started building boards was to try new styles. In my area the only thing available are 10'6"x32" cruiser boards, the ones everyone starts on, and pretty much nothing else. I applaud what you do. It's obvious you put a lot of thought into your designs and in just thinking about sup surfing in general, taking into account all facets, and having the surf knowledge and experience (which I lack in many ways) to achieve specific goals.

As to your new shape. I love it. That baby just says FUN in every way. Be looking forward to your challenge and ride reports.

Anon, I owe you a message, just getting back to mine but man, I think you've really hit something great here. That's an awesome shape.

I'm going to try to paddle my friend's 9'x24" foamie today in your honor.

You're gonna have fun with that "crowd pleaser"...;-)

We've built several Hammer X-over SUP surfboards...my personal one is 7'11" x 25" x 3.5" at 86 liters with a carbon deck and rail wrap...I ride it as a quad...
At 200# I sink it when I try to standup paddle on it...but, it sure is fun to prone surf it in fat waves...paddles like a dream...I've loaned it out to some SUP kids who ripped on it in standup mode...and, their dad loved it as a prone surfboard...

The Bean Bag is an awesome board, so loose and fast.  It is the best board I've ever ridden (the Hypto Krypto is a close second).    It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it but now everything else just seems so slow and cumbersome.    I think the only way I can make it better is to go narrower.  If the Greedy Beaver experiment goes well I will look at doing a slightly longer and narrower Bean Bag (6-4 x 25 or 6-6 x 24).

I am definitely spoiled living close Marko Foam and so many glassers.  It makes everything a lot easier and less expensive.

Thank you!  I can't wait to get it out on the water and see what happens.

The Greedy Beaver is very similar to the board you are working on, just a smaller scale.    The shape looks fun, I can't wait to get it in the water and put it through its paces.

Let us know how it went on the 9x24.

Dude!!!! 9'x24"x3" foam Liquid Force longboard.

It was a bit choppy so it was a handful to paddle, also, end of my prone session so I wasn't fresh but I paddled it for about 10 min and lived to tell. In clean conditions it would be do-able for sure. Maybe you'd get a bit wet.

However... I caught a waist high wave on it and did the best longboard turn I've ever done on a SUP or longboard. I have got to go down to something low volume and like 26" wide. On a wave it was a revelation. I'm going to cross post this in the longboard style SUP thread because the assumptions are true, build one you can barely paddle and the on wave performance goes through the roof. I get why you put up with paddling those small boards man. ;)

Awesome!  If you change the width on the longboard design you are working on to 26" it will be 8'10" x 26" x 91.5L.  If you want to keep the volume up around 95L you can add a little thickness (+0.13").    If you want to have something narrower and shorter without spending a lot check out the Wavestorm 8' x 25.5" x 3.75" x 93L.  It's only $115!
