Here is a cracker of an option and will still be cheaper than fitting traditionally. This mount simply sticks to the bottom of your board allowing you to mount a foil without the intrusive fitment we have been using. The boys from Naish Australia stuck one on the bottom a a small raptor around 3.30 yesterday afternoon and were shredding the Alley at 7.00 this morning on it. The mount holds up perfectly and feels fantastic under feet from all reports. This really is the perfect option to get started as you can basically fit it to any board you desire without having to cut holes in it...

I got a foilmount but am looking for a good plate-mount foil to go with it. Wanted to go with Kings but they are strictly Tuttle mount now. Anyone have experience with the Slingshot or Liquid Force foils? I'm about 80 kg

I think you also have plenty of adapters to convert most of the various foils mast heads to a plate mount, often sold by the foil companies themselves. Try to google "tuttle plate adapter foil" for instance

Would that be adding significant extra weight and balance issues or is that not really a factor in foiling?

I would say that the main issue in foiling is the swing weight: the mass multiplied by its distance to the center of gravity.

So weight close to the foil mast should be quite negligible compared to, say, a GoPro on the nose. And sawing off tails and noses of longer boards helps a lot :-)

Hey Sea Freaks.. did you ever try to use this board without the foil after sticking the foil mount on there?

I was wondering the same, there could be a laminar flow disruption, possibly a cavitation type effect. Don't think I'd be in a hurry to stick anything on the bottom without trialling on a demo.

I'm no rocket scientist but how come they can't make a foil adapter to fit in the the fin boxes. It would be easy to decide if you wanted to foil or surf.Would there be too much stress on the fin boxes????

One thing to consider - you can always dismount a foilmount. I've unfortunately become too familiar with the process, having broken 3 AliExpress 'carbon fibre' mounts (fully refunded BTW) on prone foil boards.

I've used heated nichrome wire to melt the foilmount off - you just need to beat wedges into the gap to stop the goo from rebonding. There's also a friction method using braided wire - but that's a lot of effort! 3M VHB tape is available from eBay (maybe $20 per remount), and WD40 dissolves the sticky residue, and electronic solvent spray to prepare a surface for resticking. Good luck!

Just be aware of the chance of delaminating your board with these stick on mounts. Should be ok with Naish, but when i couldnt wait for a proper mount on one on my boards it ripped the bottom off the board in three sessions. I have used them on kite boards with no problems. It all comes down to the quality of the board. I wouldn't use one on a sup board again. Fit a proper mounf and do it properly.
