Mistral has a new high-end material with a sort of cross-dropstitch material, stiffer and lighter than conventional dropstitch.

Most companies use this style of Drop stitch on some of their boards ;-). It's not new....

Not sure if you understand what I meant. This is not about the difference between line and dot dropstitch. This is about the threads themselves not being parallel, but slightly crossing each other (i.e. the threads are slightly diagonal in different directions). I haven't seen any other SUP brand using this yet...

Jeroen is right on this, Corran. This IS different. I've not seen anything like this in the blow-up world... Super-light in weight but the price (at this point) is prohibitive... Worth watching. Paddle on, JD

Let me attach a screenshot from the Mistral press release. Sorry about it being in German, but the photos speak for themselves. I think the board in my photo above weighs only 8 kgs or 18 lbs, and it feels super stiff...

For any of you in Southern California I'll be at the Hanohano Ocean Challenge this Saturday 1/25 with some Mistral inflatables for demo. I'll have 14' & 12'6" M1 race boards, a Kailua Fitness, and one of the new iCross series boards. Mistral dealer Waterman's Depot will be providing the tent. I'll also have KeNalu paddles, underwater LEDs by Nocqua, and new pfd's by Quatic.

I guess my question would be.....is it lighter and stronger/stiffer or just lighter and as stiff? Could they have gone the same weight as a "standard" production inflatable and made it even more stiff than it is? Did they sacrifice even more rigidity for weight, just to be lighter? Sounds interesting for sure and would really love to see one or hear more. What does losing that much weight in an inflatable do for performance? Does it make it..........corky?

I would have to go with lighter, stronger & stiffer. I've been padding the board at 20 psi and it's as easily rigid as the re-enforced iSUPs I've used. I raced the 10.5 Adventure in the 4.5 mi short course on Saturday and at a little over 10' long I had to paddle hard & often to keep that planing hull moving but I beat a whole lot of 12'6" and 14' race boards.

tested on the lake at demo day, nice boards.

my opinion, these are the stiffest (inflatable) SUP on the market today, well done guys!
(and slightly lighter than our airSUP 126SL model in the same size)

Does this material exist in 4" as well? I mostly like 6" boards for their stiffness, but I don't really like the humongous amount of floatation, or riding so high on the water, so if this cross-stitch in 4" were as strong as a regular 6", that would be perfect...
