Off side ends provide a lot of verity to paddling a C1 because if you can cartwheel on your onside as well it makes splits a very real reality.

Off side cartwheels have been said to be easier than onside ends but from my experience it depends on how good your sense of balance is because one end is done without the paddle.

From watching this little video it is quite easy to work out how it is done. I personally always split from my onside to my off side and then go into ends because I find the balance a lot easier. From this way the back catches the water first and I use the blade to bring the front round. All of the time while doing this my blade stays at a right angle to the boat and use it when it hits the water. The first end is done with placing you hand in the water and using it a bit of balance. As the boat rotates more I use the whole blade to give me more support so I don't go over forward. I then bring the blade out the water and place with the drive face in so I can pull the front round again.

The same technique can be used on the flat the hardest part being the initiation as it is a backward double pump.
